Lubumbashi, August 1, 2026 (TOP243NEWS) – President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, chaired an expanded strategic meeting of the Provincial Security Committee in Lubumbashi on Saturday, focusing on the assessment of the security situation across the Greater Katanga region.

The meeting brought together the governors of Haut-Katanga, Lualaba, Haut-Lomami, and Tanganyika provinces, alongside senior officials from the country’s defense and security services.

Discussions centered on the security challenges facing this strategically important region, which plays a vital role in the Congolese economy.

During the meeting, President Tshisekedi placed particular emphasis on securing mining areas, recognizing them as a key driver of the country’s economic growth.

The objective is to preserve social stability, combat illegal activities, and ensure a secure environment that encourages domestic and foreign investment.

This approach is in line with the resolutions adopted by the Council of Ministers, which identified the protection of mining sites as a national priority to safeguard the stability of extractive operations and strengthen investor confidence.

Holding the meeting in Lubumbashi reflects President Tshisekedi’s determination to maintain close oversight of security issues in provinces with significant economic potential while enhancing coordination between provincial authorities and the defense and security services.

Through this initiative, the Congolese government aims to strengthen security governance across the Greater Katanga region and support the sustainable economic development of one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s most important mining production hubs.
