Kinshasa, June 26, 2026 (TOP243NEWS) – The Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo will hold the first plenary sitting of its extraordinary session this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the People’s Palace in Kinshasa. The session is expected to be significant, with lawmakers set to examine key legislative proposals relating to national security and economic governance.
According to the agenda released by the Senate Bureau, the plenary session will focus on three major items.
The first concerns the general consideration of a bill authorizing the extension of the state of siege in parts of the national territory. The measure, currently in force in several provinces affected by insecurity, will be submitted to the Upper House for approval.
Senators will then consider the adoption of the report by the Economic, Financial and Good Governance Committee on the Local Content Bill in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The proposed legislation aims to strengthen the participation of Congolese companies and professionals in the country’s major economic and industrial projects.
Finally, the plenary will review the same committee’s report on the bill amending and supplementing Law No. 17/001 of February 8, 2017, which establishes the legal framework governing subcontracting in the private sector. The reform seeks to adapt the legislation to the country’s evolving economic environment while reinforcing the protection of Congolese businesses.
The Senate Bureau has reminded all senators that wearing their official identification badges is mandatory and that the attendance register must be signed both before and after the plenary sitting.
This extraordinary session comes at a time when several economic and security reforms are expected, placing the Senate at the center of discussions on the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s legislative priorities.
