Ndola,June 29, 2026 (TOP243NEWS).-With just weeks to go before Zambia’s presidential election scheduled for August 13, 2026, the electoral campaign is gaining momentum across the country.
Leading candidates are stepping up rallies and grassroots engagements in an effort to win over voters, Mike Pakoto observed on the ground in Ndola, where preparations are also underway for the 60th Ndola International Trade Fair, set to take place from July 1 to 7, 2026.
Incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema, who is seeking re-election, is highlighting the achievements of his administration, including progress in public debt restructuring, economic reforms, and efforts to strengthen governance and attract investment.
Meanwhile, the opposition is focusing its campaign on the economic hardships faced by many Zambians. The rising cost of living, youth unemployment, purchasing power, and the improvement of social services remain among the key issues raised during campaign rallies.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) continues to implement the electoral timetable and has called on political parties and their supporters to conduct a peaceful campaign in full compliance with the electoral code of conduct, with the aim of ensuring a free, fair, transparent, and credible election.
As election day draws nearer, observers expect the campaign to become increasingly intense, with economic and social issues likely to play a decisive role in shaping voters’ choices.
