Kinshasa, June 27, 2026 (TOP243NEWS).-President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo has elevated Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe Tamfum to the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Leopard. He also awarded Professor Stanislas Sulu Maseb’a Mwang the Gold Medal of Merit in Arts, Sciences and Letters during a ceremony held on Saturday at the Cité de l’Union Africaine in Kinshasa.
Through these distinctions, « the Republic honors two exceptional careers. It honors knowledge, hard work, rigor, dedication, the transmission of knowledge, and a profound commitment to public service, » the Head of State said.
The awards recognize, on the one hand, Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe’s major contribution to the co-discovery of the Ebola virus and his outstanding expertise in combating epidemics.
On the other hand, they pay tribute to Professor Stanislas Sulu Maseb’a Mwang for his significant achievements in the field of oncology and for introducing radiotherapy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
