Kolwezi, August 9, 2026 (TOP243NEWS).- The United Methodist Church, a member community of the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC) in Lualaba Province, dedicated its special Methodist Laymen’s Service this Sunday to a call for faith, commitment and perseverance in serving God.
David Kakez, the guest preacher of the day, invited by the Central Methodist Church and coming from the Nouvelle Cité de David Extension Parish of the United Methodist Church in Kolwezi, urged worshippers to reflect on the theme “Serving God: A Duty and a Privilege.” His sermon emphasized that Christians should view their spiritual commitment not as a constraint, but as a mission entrusted to them by God.
Drawing in particular on teachings from Colossians 3:21-25, Revelation 22:12, as well as several other biblical passages, the preacher reminded the congregation that every believer has a calling and a responsibility in God’s work. Christian service, he stressed, should not be motivated solely by recognition or human rewards, but by faithfulness to God.
The message also drew a distinction between serving people and serving Christ. While human service can be marked by frustration, lack of recognition or discouragement, service to God is rooted in faith, obedience, sincerity and perseverance.
The preacher therefore urged worshippers not to abandon their commitment in the face of criticism, difficulties or a lack of recognition. According to his message, God sees the work accomplished in silence and rewards, in His own time, those who remain faithful to their mission.
The sermon placed particular emphasis on the need to serve with joy, courage, honesty and consistency, regardless of the role a person holds within the Church. Every talent, responsibility and contribution, however modest, can help advance the Christian mission.
Through biblical examples including Paul, Simon Peter, Abraham, Nehemiah, David and other figures of the Bible, the preacher called on worshippers to remain confident when circumstances appear unfavorable.
“Do not be discouraged” was one of the central messages addressed to Christians. Difficulties, criticism or changes in responsibilities should not, according to the sermon, lead believers to abandon their service to God.
The sermon ultimately presented Christian service as a source of blessings and privileges, while reminding worshippers that the true reward comes from God and is granted in His own time.
The celebration began and ended with prayer, with a call for the work of the Holy Spirit, faithfulness and continued commitment by worshippers in their various responsibilities within the Church.
Central message: For Christians, serving God is both a duty, a calling and a privilege. Faith, obedience and perseverance must remain the foundations of this commitment, despite trials and any possible lack of human recognition.
