Tanzania: Félix Tshisekedi on a Two-Day Working Visit to Zanzibar to Strengthen Cooperation with Tanzania

Zanzibar, August 18, 2026 (TOP243NEWS).- At the invitation of his Tanzanian counterpart, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, arrived in Zanzibar on Monday, August 17, for a two-day working visit to the United Republic of Tanzania.

Upon arrival at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, the Congolese Head of State was welcomed by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the DRC, Said J. Mshana, as well as several senior officials.

The visit, which concludes this Tuesday, August 18, reflects the two countries’ determination to consolidate their bilateral relations and give fresh impetus to cooperation in several areas of common interest.

During his stay, Félix Tshisekedi is expected to hold talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan on a range of bilateral and regional issues. Discussions will notably focus on trade and investment, agriculture, mining resources, energy, infrastructure and transport, healthcare, as well as digital communications.

Peace, security and regional integration are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions between the two leaders, against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in the Great Lakes region.

On the economic front, Kinshasa and Dodoma also intend to strengthen trade and cooperation on transport infrastructure, particularly infrastructure aimed at facilitating the movement of Congolese products and minerals towards East African trade corridors.

At the conclusion of their talks, the two Heads of State are expected to address the press and present the main outcomes of the visit, including the areas of cooperation to be further strengthened between the DRC and Tanzania.

Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to Zanzibar follows his trip to Gabon and forms part of a regional diplomatic drive aimed at strengthening the DRC’s partnerships with its neighboring countries and African partners.
