Brazzaville, August 15, 2026 (TOP243NEWS).- The Republic of Congo on Saturday celebrated the 66th anniversary of its independence in the presence of President Denis Sassou N’Guesso. The official ceremony was held under the theme: “Development Objective: Let Us Accelerate the Pace.”
At the opening of the ceremony, the master of ceremonies, Bienvenue Boudimbou, highlighted the symbolism of the national flag’s colors.
Since the dawn of independence, the national flag has continued to fly, serving as a faithful witness to the struggles, hopes and achievements of the Congolese people.
On this day of celebration, green, yellow and red once again rose above the nation. Green represents the country’s dense forests and hope; yellow evokes nobility as well as the wealth of its subsoil, while red recalls the sacrifice of generations who worked to ensure the survival and prosperity of the nation.
Three colors, one soul: that of a Congo standing tall, dignified and resolutely looking toward the future, under the leadership of President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
The official ceremony took place in a solemn and patriotic atmosphere, marked by the performance of the national anthem, a symbol of the unity and pride of a people deeply attached to its history.
“Congolese people, standing proudly everywhere, proclaim the unity of their nation,” reflects the spirit of this celebration, which calls on citizens to rise above divisions and place the collective future at the heart of national action.
This momentum is in line with the theme chosen for the celebration of the 66th anniversary of independence: “Development Objective: Let Us Accelerate the Pace.”
The theme reflects the determination to make development a national priority and accelerate the country’s economic and social transformation. Road infrastructure, electrification, education, healthcare, agriculture and other productive sectors are therefore seen as key drivers of this ambition.
“Accelerating the pace” also means mobilizing all the nation’s vital forces: the defense and security forces, which guarantee stability; the youth, who are drivers of innovation; women, who play a key role in development; as well as workers and producers committed to creating wealth.
Work and Agriculture in the Spotlight
The celebration also highlighted the role of work, particularly agricultural activity, in the country’s economic and social transformation.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic was due to confer honors on several figures from the agricultural sector in the broadest sense, as well as Congolese citizens in the diaspora who distinguished themselves during 2026.
The segment dedicated to the presentation of national honors was to be led by Norbert Okyo Koudina, Grand Chancellor of National Orders and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic.
Through these distinctions, the Republic of Congo seeks to recognize those who, through their work, commitment and sense of duty, contribute to nation-building.
The Independence Day celebration thus serves as a moment of remembrance, unity and projection toward the future.
It carries a central message: that of a united Congo, committed to work and resolutely determined to accelerate its march toward development, Bienvenue Boudimbou concluded.
