Kinshasa, Aug. 10, 2026 (TOP243NEWS).- Democratic Republic of Congo Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka on Monday received an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), in recognition of her career and work at the helm of the government.

The distinction was awarded during an academic ceremony held at UNIKIN’s student plaza, attended by the President of the Senate, several government officials, academic and scientific leaders, as well as members of Suminwa’s family.

The university presented the honorary degree as recognition of Judith Suminwa’s commitment to governance, peace, development and the promotion of gender parity.

The DRC’s first woman to serve as prime minister, Suminwa also became, according to information presented during the ceremony, the first woman involved in politics to receive the honorary title from UNIKIN.

Speaking at the ceremony, the prime minister said the distinction represented more than a personal honour.

“Some distinctions honour a career. Others, rarer still, call upon one’s conscience,” she said, describing the award as a reminder of the responsibility of leaders in managing public affairs.

Suminwa dedicated the recognition to the Congolese people, particularly women contributing to the country’s development across various sectors.

“By accepting this honorary degree, I receive far more than an honour; I receive a noble mission: to continue serving the Democratic Republic of Congo with dedication,” she added.

She also associated members of her government with the distinction, stressing its collective nature.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of UNIKIN’s guest book and a commemorative photograph.
